Episode 32: Trying Podcasting Part 2 with Wynne and Vicki

In this episode, I’m with my co-host Vicki Atkinson and we are doing a two-part series about podcasting. In this second episode of the two, we are focusing on the mechanics of podcasting.

We talk about some of the choices we’ve had to make about where to publish our podcast, how widely to distribute it on other platforms, and what we’ve learned about how those choices impact things like the ability to see listener stats.

Vicki brings up some of the down stream options that have come to us to partner with people and how our approach is to be curious and careful. Which extends to advertising and making money off a podcast, neither of which we’ve done, because we’ve taken this slow route.

In this episode, we also talk about how to find and invite guests on, a practice we still are relatively new at but has been so fun and inspiring to us personally to get to meet our guests. Vicki and I talk about the care and feeding of guests as well as our ongoing practice to be voracious listeners.

And although we don’t talk about it on air, Vicki found a great resource of podcast ideas along the way on our journey and so we link to it below.

This is a fun episode of storytelling about podcasting, with a few extra stories about the silliness of the ups and downs that happen along the way. We laugh even as we talk about dry topics like podcast platforms and stats. I know you’ll love it.

Episode 130: Take Me Back to Chicago with Doug E. Jones Sharing the Heart of the Matter

In this episode of the podcast, Wynne Leon and Vicki Atkinson engage with novelist Doug E. Jones about Take Me Back to Chicago. Our conversation delves into the rich tapestry of 1974 Chicago, exploring the characters, music, and personal connections that shape the narrative. Doug also shares insights into his transition from TV writing as a writer for the tv show Charmed (and more) to novel writing. We also talk about the thematic elements of his work, and the humor that permeates his storytelling. The episode highlights the importance of character dynamics and the personal experiences that inform Doug's writing, making it a delightful exploration of both the book and the author's journey.TakeawaysDoug E. 1. Good morning ladies, sorry its taken me so long to post. I listened to the podcast a few days ago but I wanted to take the time to write a proper response. You encourage and support others so much with your kind and open words, it’s only fair I return the favour. I loved this recording so much. I could listen to you two (friends) chatting, but I found this episode interesting. I think for many of us, at different stages in our journey (be that blogging or wider media) it was great to get your insights into what makes your work successful … the characteristics you bring, but also the technical knowledge /expertise that has been gained. Additionally, I found the promotional/marketing aspects you touched on. Hearing about your perspectives on relationships … effectively ethical questions about who to ally with or not – really gave us an insight into your values. Thank you for those insights xxx

Couple of other things … you talked about taking notes during the podcast conversations – maybe because I do this with work anyway, but I never noticed when I was recording with you.

Also … I would love to connect with you on LinkedIn, if you can share/send me the details 😍

Keep up your amazing work xxx

  2. Hello, Brenda! Thank you so much for all of that. We love what a ‘close listener’ you are. You’ve literally watched us grow and we are so grateful for your support. The fact that the podcast sounds like friends chatting is just right. Thank you for that observation. And yes — lovely to connect on LinkedIn. I’ll send you an email with info. Hugs…and big smiles! 🥰🥰🥰
