Congratulations to our friend, Lois Roelofs!

We posted about Lois’ nomination for a Chicago Writers Association Award just two weeks ago and we learned this morning…she’s a winner!

From all of your Heart of the Matter friends, Lois, we salute you and your beautiful book about Marv. What a wonderful, well-deserved win. 💕
(And for those who may have missed our hopeful post as we cheered Lois on, see below from November 23.)
We couldn’t be more excited for our friend – author and podcaster – Lois Roelofs whose book “Marv Taking Charge: A Story of Bold Love and Courage” is a finalist for a Chicago Writers Association Award!
Read all about the finalists – including Lois’ beautiful book here: 2023 Book of the Year Awards (chicagowrites.org)
Wynne and I were thrilled to visit with Lois and record a podcast about her book. If you missed it the first time around, here’s the Heart of the Matter blog post from June 23 and here’s the direct link to Lois’ podcast with us:

We’ll be thinking good thoughts for you, Lois. Crossing fingers and toes. Your book – and Marv’s story – are worthy of every bit of recognition. Cheers to you!

Couldn’t happen to a better person. Congrats, Lois!

Thank you so much! I’m thrilled, of course, that my writing is recognized but even more so that my husband’s message of “it’s ok to refuse chemo” gets a broader audience.

Agree, agree, Lois. And your beautiful book…Marv’s story… are gifts to those facing difficult decisions. I couldn’t be happier for you. Marv’s still “taking charge”! 💕💕💕

Yes, yes, I can’t wait to read it. So happy for another writer putting their story out for others to read and gain from it! Well deserved.

I hadn’t heard the podcast before with Lois and just went back and listened to it now. The lesson for me is that we should choose quality of life over quantity for days on Earth. What a wonderful way to go through life, particularly as our time dwindles!
Hospice was a godsend when my mom passed.
My son and his wife (recently married) moved to Sioux Falls in the last year when he took a coaching job at Sioux Falls University. Though we live in California now, I grew up in the Dakotas. He’s been living in Montana the past three years, so it won’t be a complete shock to his system.🤣
