In order to keep producing thoughtful new podcasts, we have slowed our HoTM podcast release schedule to bi-weekly. This also gives us an opportunity to highlight some more great YouTube shorts from our vault of videos of fabulous podcast guests.
In this first short clip, author Lauren Scott tells us how her beautiful children’s book, Cora’s Quest came together from start to finish. And check out the fabulous reviews Lauren has gotten on this delightful book: https://baydreamerwrites.com/coras-quest-reviews/
For the full episode see Episode 92: Baydreamer Writes with Lauren Scott
We round that out with some great wisdom from the amazing and productive Brian Hannon about capturing the ideas and creativity when they pop-up — no matter when and where that is!
For the full episode, see: Episode 91: NaNoWriMo with Brian Hannon

I love these short clips. It was great to hear Lauren explain how her book came into being. And it’s always great to listen to Brian. I agree, exercise, walking for me in particular, is great to get the creative juices going.

Beethoven also carried a notebook wherever he went, keeping it handy and sometimes not using his musical ideas for years. Bravo to Brian! And glad to hear the two lovely podcasters have decided that collapsing in a heap of exhaustion is best avoided by slowing down!

These are wonderful short clips. Love the Mary Oliver quote (we love all things Mary Oliver). It recently dawned on me that I’ve been swept up in a lovely river current of great teacher and author blogs. I hadn’t searched for those in particular. My search terms to find blogs to read were – happy, positive, inspirational, good people… Now we know who happy, positive, inspirational, good people are – they’re teachers and authors! And you Wynne and Vicki and the Heart of the Matter team, do a fantastic job of highlighting wonderful authors, writers, and educators. So glad to have found you. Thank you for sharing and connecting us to all this goodness.💞💞

I love Lauren using her nephew’s artwork, I think that’s cool, and Brian’s story reminded me of Keith Richards keeping a tape recorder and guitar by his bed. He listened one morning and realized that he had written much of Satisfaction in his sleep! We absolutely have to capture those words and/or notes as they arrive. 😊

Thanks so much, Wynne, for including me in this post. I’m honored to share the spotlight with Brian whose writing seems to always resonate with me. I learned a lot working with Chris, and it was a wonderful experience. Mary Oliver is one of my favorites, and I also have to write down thoughts for fear of them floating away on the next breeze. Thanks again, and have a great weekend! 🥰

I forgot to mention that I agree about exercising. It’s a vicious circle because many times I don’t feel like exercising, and yet, after I do regardless of the type, I feel much better. 🙂 My hubby and I have been cycling more indoors and out and it feels good. 🤗🚴♀️

I loved listening back to your process about Cora’s Quest now that it’s out. So fun! And I agree about exercise — it is a vicious circle but one that always produces good results. I hope you have a great weekend, Lauren!

Lauren’s account about the procedure for preparing a children’s book was quite interesting. It actually sounded like it transformed into a fun family project. Brian is right-keep a notepad by your bed and write your ideas down! 🙂

Oh, wow, thanks again for having me on the podcast Wynne. It’s always great to chat with the two of you. I always feel like I’m the one who benefits the most, but I’ll take what I can get. Love that it’s a natural, free-flowing conversation between the three of us. I’m not sure how entertaining it is as a podcast, but it’s fun from my perspective!!!!!!

I especially like the idea of working with a family member as Lauren did. How cool that her nephew is such a talented author. Collaboration is the best endeavor. Cora’s Quest is a wonderful picture book.
I do some of my best thinking either during or following exercise. Peace of mind is a key to our mental health besides the physical benefits. I also believe in Brian’s idea of having a notepad by the bed. After a few epic fails of forgetfulness, I always have one on my bedside table. Writing thoughts down gives us permission to fall asleep without worrying whether we’ll remember them or not.

Producing new content takes so much work especially with everything else you and Vicki on your plate. Great idea to slow down and focus on quality and quantity. Having said that, I’ve been impressed with your new season of episodes and the caliber of your guests and discussions. Keep up the great work you two!
