Episode 35: Savor September with Wynne and Vicki

In this episode, I’m with my co-host Vicki Atkinson and we are talking about the seasonal shift that comes with September. No matter where we are in life, somehow the arc of life seems noticeable as we move from summer to fall.

So Vicki and I talk about how to be active and engaged in productive way. Drawing on Vicki’s experience as a professor and dean, we talk through how to shift from September stress to September savor, our ability to fully taste and enjoy the transition.

We recognize that the stress is there for educators and families as I can attest to firsthand. So we talk about the comfort of knowing that we aren’t the only ones, and how to aim for being flexible as a family. For whatever phase we are in, we discuss ways to ride the wave of change instead of being pounded by the surf.

I tell the story of a recent adventure that my family was propelled into and Vicki notes that learning happens everywhere. Which is a great way to go full circle in this episode about back to school. Because everyone, no matter how old, can tune into the vibrancy that comes with changing something, even if it’s just the season.

This is a great episode about change, stress, and doing our best to thrive amidst it all. I know you’ll love it.

Episode 66: The Power of Story with Wynne and Vicki Sharing the Heart of the Matter

In this episode, Wynne Leon is with co-host, blogger and author, Vicki Atkinson. We are changing our format starting with this episode. Vicki and Wynne are big believers in the power of story – to connect us, to create intergenerational healing, and to make meaning out of the events of our lives. To set the stage, we will be starting with someone telling a story in each episode. In this case, Wynne tells a story about what happened when she and her kids recently rescued a bunny. We got to see and learn a little bit about the nature of life, death, and our part in the circle of life. Please forgive me for talking too fast as I tell the story. It’s part of my learning process to transition between interviewer to being in the spotlight. My nerves pushed me to rush so I need to practice slowing down. In this episode that is about 15 minutes long, after I tell the story, we talk a little bit about the elements of a good story. Drawing from the research of Will Storr and his Ted Talk, we highlight some of the features that come to play in most of our stories, whether they be personal narrative, fiction, or something in between. Vicki brilliantly likens our new route starting with this episode, Route 66. Please join us for the scenic and beautiful places we go when we share the power of story. 1. Thank you both for acknowledging the seasonal shift whether it’s school, weather or the metaphorical. This week felt long and tough and this was a nice validating message to see. Happy weekend both.

    1. I hear you about long and tough weeks, Ab! Sorry that has been the case for you all this week and we’re on the same back to school schedule as you so I totally feel you!! Sending lots of love and friend-care! 🙂 ❤

  2. As a kid, and maybe even still now, it always bummed me out that my birthday month denoted the start of fall. Never liked the colder weather coming. I could look at my birthday as the last hurrah, but, nope, couldn’t quite console myself with that notion. 😛
