Light, Love & Gifting

Here at Heart of the Matter we writers are dabbling with the concept of “light” this month.

As you may have read, our talented team has done a terrific job of bringing heartfelt stories forward, literally reflecting their creative insight about the word LIGHT and all the various manifestations of its meaning.  LIGHT. LIGHT. LIGHT.

In December, at least in the Northern Hemisphere, the absence of dayLIGHT is quite an adjustment.  I find it harder and harder to motivate myself when the sun wants to call it quits (assuming we see said sun) as shadows begin to fall at 4:00 pm.  Sunset?  I think today it will be 4:20 pm.

And while I know longer days are coming, there’s something about this nesting time of year that begs a combination of melancholy and magic.  Holiday décor provides welcome twinkles and a room lit by candlelight and the glow of a fireplace?  It feels like a return to calm.  So, I say give in.  Before we know it, the days will grow longer and the hustle to do a little more, squeeze just a teensy bit extra out of every day will return.

As we prepare to tuck in 2023, Wynne and I are reveling; grateful for the supportive, generous community we’ve found here. Thank you to each of you for reading, sharing your insights and supporting our efforts to bring light.  Perhaps that could’ve been the three-word manifesto for Heart of the Matter all along. Bring the light.

In that spirit, I ask, what’s better than a good book and nestling into your favorite reading spot? 😊

Thank you to those who’ve read and gifted our books, “Surviving Sue” and “Finding My Father’s Faith”.  Sharing light and love through our very personal stories of resilience is an intention.  Thank you for supporting both of us, indie authors on a mission.

Here are our two favorite holiday gift giving ideas:

Surviving Sue (paperback from Eckhartz Press) and Amazon eBook.

Finding My Father’s Faith (Amazon paperback and eBook).

If you have a moment more, you’ll enjoy my post on Victoria Ponders about a wonderful conversation with a former student this week – with a reminder:  Lean Into the Light.

    1. Good morning, dear Jules. What a beautiful thing to say. But…I’d bounce all of that love right back to you. You’ve been a non-stop source of inspiration for Wynne and I…grateful are we for YOUR glimmering goodness. xo! 🥰

  1. I love the theme of light this month for the very reason you noted – the lack of daylight is hard. Thankfully in 11 days, the days start getting lighter again, 1 minute longer per day. 🙏

  2. Two winners that were a pleasure to read. Part of what interests me about people is understanding what makes them tick and why they are the way they are.
