One Change Away

This weekend I slept in until 6am. Then I popped up after a really good night’s sleep and thought, “OMG, what just happened?”

Every since my kids were born, I’ve used the time in the morning as my sacred time to meditate. Then when I started writing regularly, I stopped watching tv in the evening so that I could go to bed earlier. I needed to create more time to both meditate and write in the morning before they awaken. I started getting up, without using an alarm, at 5 or 5:15am in the summer, closer to 5:30am in the dark winter.

Then this week a cold snap hit Seattle. Listening to the furnace blow constantly made me think about what temperature I had it set to at night. When my kids were sleeping in cribs and didn’t have the wherewithal to cover themselves with blankets, I raised the nighttime setting to 65 degrees. I hadn’t revisited now that they are both sleeping with bedding.

So I lowered it to 63 degrees – and slept longer. What if the changes we envision for our lives were like that? Pretty painless path of connecting the dots.

In two weeks, Vicki and I are doing an online event for RevelEleven – an organization that asks a similar question “What if one small thing — a story, a conversation, a person, an adventure — could change your life for the better?” Their mission is to “come together online to listen to outstanding speakers who cover a variety of topics. From mental, physical and financial well-being to current events and climate change, we cover topics that you care about and we have fun doing it.”

Vicki and I are doing a free, online workshop about Cultivating Resilience Through Creativity on 1/31 at 9am Pacific time. We’d love for you to join us. Because we resonate with the Revel Eleven question – “What if one small thing — a story, a conversation, a person, an adventure — could change your life for the better?”

  1. Winter has most certainly. It’s been so cold over here in Toronto too. And it would certainly be wonderful if we could all simply manifest the life we envision by, as you say, connecting the dots. Definitely goals for the new year!

You and Vicki are hitting the new year running already – and good luck with your upcoming workshop!

  2. Love this…and not for the reason you might suspect! Turns out (and we did NOT compare notes) that 63 degrees F is the perfect sleeping temperature for moi! Hubster Paul disagrees–vehemently – and I just tell him to grab an extra blanket. 😜 Thank you for the smile about slumber secrets, Wynne, and for all the other common denominators we share. xo! 🥰

      1. I meant “off” not of but I’m sure you got that. I have to get up early some months to beat the heat on our morning walks. Now the sun is up at 7:30 am and it’s been from 27 to 35 degrees.

  3. Small things lead to much bigger ideas, so anything that improves the quality of life for civilization is a no-brainer. Best of luck to you and Vicki with your workshop.
