Episode 92: Baydreamer – Author Lauren Scott

Wynne and I had the privilege of spending time with accomplished and acclaimed author, Lauren Scott recently and our chat with her was delightful in every way. If you’re a writer, blogger, author…or aspire to any of those identities…or you’re a nature lover, observer of the human condition…you need to join us for this episode.

Lauren shares that writing poetry has been a part of her identity since she was a teenager and when she thinks about her poetry – her artistry with words – she says poems are a “destination for emotions”. Wow, right?

Along the way, Lauren talks about confidence-building and the steps she took to grow into her writing practice…writing for terrific online magazines and publishing books. Volumes of poetry and prose, memoir, short stories, fiction and children’s books – including an upcoming new release that we can’t wait to read.

Need more enticement to tune in? Lauren’s a humble award-winner, too. In fact, on the day we recorded, Lauren shared her latest achievement. Winning the “Publication of the Month” award from Spillwords Press for her charming Halloween-themed poem, “Treats Only, Please”.

Lauren generously shares her pockets of inspiration from nature. Her love of hiking – with her trusty journal in tow. Inspiration IS everywhere if we keep our peepers open. And so…Wynne and I invite you to listen and learn from Lauren. You will love this episode!

    1. Hi Maggie, thanks for taking the time to watch! I’m so glad you loved the interview! Vicki and Wynne created a wonderful space for us to chat. And I’m happy I didn’t look nervous. My perception is a bit different, but all is good! 🙂 Thanks again, my friend, and lots of love and hugs to you! ❤️🤗🌺

  1. Great interview. I follow Lauren’s blog so I enjoyed hearing her voice! I enjoyed learning about her children’s book because that’s where I started writing when my children were young. I had several children’s stories published in Ladybug magazine and in the Los Angeles Times. As my kids grew, my writing followed their age groups 😊

      1. You are so kind! Lauren was great and she’s making me take a look at self-publishing. I had an offer years ago to publish my children’s story about my mom from a traditional publisher. I thought the offer was too small and waited for more offers to come in! 😂 A deep regret of mine. There are a couple children’s stories I’ve written that I’d like to see published, my mom’s story one of them.

    1. Thanks so much, Elizabeth, and I agree with Vicki, you are so accomplished! I’m sure my knowledge isn’t at your level because Cora’s Quest is my first children’s book. But we have to start somewhere, right? And usually, it’s not at the top! 🙂 Congratulations on all your books and publications! That’s awesome! And thanks again for listening! 🥰

      1. Congratulations to you! I’ve never had a book published. I have had magazine, newspaper and website publishing, even a weekly column. The book has been elusive. You’ve encouraged me!

  2. Though I’m not a poet, I have seen Lauren on many of the same blogs I follow. I especially enjoyed listening and learning about her writing journey. It’s one of the most fascinating parts of writing that so many of us have a desire to do it, but life gets in the way until we make it a higher priority.

Her thoughts on forming connections and a support group through blogging resonated with me too. It is the best resource for building community and meeting like-minded people far more than other forms of social media.

I appreciated Lauren’s honesty about having a lack of writing credentials and how it affects one’s self-esteem. I have noticed that many authors suffer from the same affliction, even those with tons of commercial success. Imposter syndrome is a very real phenomenon.

    1. Your comments are always so insightful, Pete. Thank you so much for highlighting the importance of connecting and supporting one another and for recognizing the power of Lauren’s candor. Feeling worthy as writers is important but can be oh-so elusive. Many thanks to you for sharing that you enjoyed our chat with Lauren! 🥰

    2. Hi Pete, I remember seeing you on mutual friends’ blogs too. 🙂 Thanks so much for taking the time to watch the podcast, which was such a wonderful experience with Wynne and Vicki. I appreciate your thoughtful comment and am glad some of what I said resonated with you. As to my honesty, I debated whether I should add that little detail, and in the end, full transparency prevailed. It’s my story; I can’t rewrite it, and like you mentioned, I’m sure others feel the same. So, I’ve learned along the way while writing when inspiration pays me a visit, and the learning continues. Thanks again!

      1. Here’s to honesty and being human. Showing our vulnerabilities is what connects us to those around us who have many of the same insecurities.

  4. Congratulations on your “Sharing the Heart of the Matter” video interview, Lauren! I just watched it. I find it fascinating how we all come to writing on different paths, but each path leads to the right place.

    1. Thanks, Liz! I’m honored to have been a guest with Vicki and Wynne. The experience was not only fun in simple terms, but it was a forward step in my growth as a writer. I’m grateful to have had this opportunity. And I love your perception: “…how we all come to writing on different paths, but each path leads to the right place.” I’m always interested to learn the story of other writers too. Thanks again! 💞

  5. Good morning, I saw the link to your podcast on Cindy’s blog. Knowing Lauren from blogging and from Facebook, it was an additional bonus to hear some of her journey in writing. Vicki and Wynne do a fabulous interview. It’s so informative on several levels. I will tune in to more of them.

  6. I love your conversations about the writing process and what a great conversation with Lauren. Her observation that poetry is a destination for emotions is so profound.

I also love that writing came to her through a personal means rather than through formal education. It’s certainly something to feel proud of.

Best wishes with the children’s book!
