The Real Magic

It’s December that month full of magic. Christmas makes it a magical month. Twinkling lights, that first snowflake, comfort food and a warming fire all create an air of magic that sparkles like stardust in a dark velvet sky. Can we though, find magic any time we choose?

Every month, every year, every season has its own special magic. Not because of all the things that lay outside you, but because of all the things that are inside you. The way you think. The way you allow yourself to feel. The way you interact with others. The way you observe the little things. They all bring the real magic. You are the stardust.

Stardust may not be magical to one person and may evoke deep emotions for another. It may inspire us or bore us. We’re all different in our approach and observations.

The idea then is to find your own magic inside you. What tugs at your soul? What is profoundly moving to you? What energizes you?

The real magic is inside you. And there is only one thing that prevents you from pulling it out of yourself and experiencing it. It’s you!

Recently I met, by complete chance or synchronicity, three different women, who for whatever reason shared their stories with me.  I’ll share more in future posts on my blog, but the common thread among their stories is they found their own magic and are living their own success stories. Leaving successful careers behind, they now do the things that fulfill their souls. They took great risks, pushed aside the fears and leapt in. The net appeared.

To feel the magic, you must look with different eyes.  Not with an outcome in mind, but with an openness that solicits a sense of wonder.  And once inside the wonder you must slide along the rainbow to experience every layer, every colour, every possibility while pushing away the doubts that will undoubtedly nag at you. Let go and notice the tiny details, wonder, and question with no result in mind, and your way will appear.

The great naturalist and observer John Burroughs offered the famous quote, “Leap and the net will appear.” He also wrote in his book, The Summit of the Years (1913), “There is one emotion of knowledge and one emotion of ignorance; that of knowledge is often the emotion of joy and faith, that of ignorance is often the emotion of fear and superstition.”

Choosing knowledge over ignorance, joy over fear, you soon realize that the net appears when you find the real magic that already exists inside you.

I hope you will leap into the new year and will find your own real magic. What will that be?

While on the theme of your magic, you may want to read my recent post The Magic of Your Orenda.

Have a magical Christmas and a beautiful New Year’s celebration.  I will see you here again in January.

  1. I am not surprised that you have stories to tell about bearing witness to wonder…three women of courage with a common denominator. Their willingness to find their magic.
I love this: “They took great risks, pushed aside the fears and leapt in. The net appeared.”
I think it’s the inability to see the metaphorical net, not knowing if the risks are worth the leap.
Thank you so much for a post full of encouragement, Alegria, (and for linking to “The Magic of Your Orenda”. A must read!). 🥰

    1. Thanks for reading Vicki. It is quite amazing the messages we consistently receive, that we must pass along. You never know who it will impact. The net is there we just don’t realize it. That’s why it’s called a leap of faith, right.
Thanks for appreciating my friend. Thank you for having me here. 💕

  2. I am bah humbug about Christmas, sadly, but yesterday met up with a woman who told me a magical tale, and it did peak my curiosity. Now your post. Maybe I will find that magic after all.

    1. It doesn’t have to be about Christmas VJ. Though if you look around you, you’ll definitely find some magic. How lovely that the magical tale piqued your curiosity. And now this? Yes, there’s magic in the air. Enjoy it.

I love, “To feel the magic, you must look with different eyes.  Not with an outcome in mind, but with an openness that solicits a sense of wonder.  ” Thank you for all you do to open eyes and hearts! So much magic in you! ❤ ❤ ❤

  4. I was just remarking last night how I love this time of the year with the beautiful Christmas lights. It is magical.

But you are right that we can find magic in all seasons and times and to do so, we must look at life with a different set of eyes.

  5. Lovely post, and so true about finding the magic within us and the willingness to be open, stepping out of a certain mindset “to solicit that sense of wonder.” I love this time of year because it is magical, and then I wish the magic, the giving, the compassion would spill into the new year and continue perpetually. Beautiful post to ponder. ❤️🤗
