Episode 93: Celebrating Poetry with Cindy Georgakas

Prepare to be inspired, friends!

Wynne and I had the pleasure of visiting, podcast-style, with acclaimed author Cindy Georgakas this week and we’re still floating from the lift, love and encouragement she offered.

Tune in to learn about Cindy’s road to authorship – her well-regarded “Re-Create & Celebrate: 7 Steps to Live the Life of Your Dreams” and her beautiful poetry. Cindy’s latest, “Celebrating Poetry” is coming very soon. Stay tuned!

Talking with Cindy is like visiting with a dear one – from the instant we began chatting. Her warmth and kindness come through as she shares insights about what matters most: Being present with one another, listening with love and care and remembering that writing that comes from the heart will always be a winner.

Which brings me to this:

Cindy’s an award-winning author three times over.

Earning the accolade of “Publication of the Month” in October 2022; Author of the Month in April 2023 and Author of the Year in 2024 from Spillwords Press.

Cindy is so inspiring and a wonderful positive guest, who truly ‘got it done’ and continues to do so. I really loved when she said this:

‘ I was on a mountain and I wanted to scream and say stop just stop and love each other!’

    1. Tee-hee…and you know what? I was JUST typing up the ‘show notes’ for your upcoming podcast episode, Mr. Petruska, and made note of your grand sense of humor. You have good, supernatural timing, too. Thanks much for listening — obviously ALL the way through. Cindy was a terrific guest! And we DO need to figure out how to caravan. 🥰😉🥰

    1. You touched on my favorites, too, Nancy. Especially Cindy’s insight — “we attract who we are”. Thank you so much for listening and for sharing in our congratulations for Cindy. xo! 🥰

  2. Vicki and Wynne, I truly enjoyed this warm conversation with Cindy! She is so inspiring with all that she has accomplished. Some points that hit home for me were her describing her poetry as straightforward (this is how I describe mine because I’d rather have readers resonate with a poem than scratch their heads trying to decode it), that she is humble after many accolades, planning doesn’t always go as we plan, supporting others, the gift of listening, but most of all, writing from the heart. I feel this deeply. And I love what her daughter said to her. Oh, the joys of our adult children and their opinions! Congrats, Cindy! You were awesome! ❤️👏🏼🎉

    1. Humble, talented, warm, candid…I agree with your praise of Cindy, Lauren. Every bit. And I love that you highlighted the balancing act of planning that Cindy noted. Doing it but not being too restrictive. What a wealth of inspiration richness in these past two weeks — visiting with you and now Cindy. Inspiration galore. Big hugs and thanks! 🥰💕🥰

    2. Hi Lauren,

Thank you so much for your very kind words and resonating with my poetry, in the same way I do with yours.

I love the saying “we plan and God laughs”. Or our kids do teach us alright. Thank you so much for always being such a support to me and so many in our community. 💗💓🙏🏼🙏🏼

  4. Cindy is a gem whose natural positivity jumps out at us. I’ve followed her blog for quite some time. Though I don’t write poetry, and frankly don’t read it that much, I gravitate toward uplifting blogs like hers. She is genuine, which is what connects us with others.

    1. Thank you, Pete. I’ve come to the conclusion that you are connected to all the great, positive people. I am so grateful to you for the introductions you’ve made…to wonderful folks like Cindy. You’re the best! 🥰

    2. Oh Pete, this is an affirming post and I so much appreciate your warmth, kindness and sharing. I often hear, “I don’t like poetry, but I love yours because it doesn’t feel like poetry”. It means the world to me that you feel my genuineness that connects us, always. Thanks, my friend💓 Hope the party went well💓

  5. It’s always interesting to me what each of you — Wynne and yourself — focus on in your podcast previews. They’re always different but always have a complimentary glimmer. Putting on my philosopher hat for a second, it reminded me how the sun was still up today … but you could start to see the moon. Parallel but different, that’s you guys. How about those words of wisdom? Philosopher Brian. 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🫣🤪🤪 Ha ha, great listen with Cindy!

    1. Hey — that’s an amazing observation! Wynne and I specifically do not discuss what we might write about. I love that you see “complimentary glimmers”. I think you ARE a philosopher, Mr. Sun and Moon. Beautiful, Brian. Thank you so much. 🥰☀️🥰

  6. Wonderful, uplifting interview! Cindy writes because she has something to say. She is not seeking a message; she is finding ever more eloquent ways to share rich insights gained from a lifetime of helping others. Cindy is the ultimate cheerleader. Honesty and empathy are hallmarks of her life and her writing. 👏

  7. What a soothing and inspiring conversation you both had with Cindy. I love all your conversations that involve talking about the craft of writing as it’s so different for each writer.

Love the approach to life that Cindy shared about embracing the moments that life throw at you and to embrace spontaneity instead of having everything always planned.

Also must be very cool to have been at the same house party as Jane Fonda. A book about aging will undoubtedly be very interesting!
