Episode 103: Turning the Tables with Brian Hannon

Commemorating our 100th (plus!) podcast, Wynne and I sat down with our partner and writer extraordinaire, Brian Hannon to do a little reflecting.

Given Brian’s background as a reporter, a communications professional and a beloved blogger, we knew we were in for a good time. Turning the mic over to Brian was so much fun! He’s a born interviewer and journalist – even when the topic is the who, what, when, where and why...oh the why…about podcasting.

As many of you know, Sharing the Heart of the Matter began two years ago as a platform for showcasing heartfelt stories and storytellers. As the three founding members, Brian, Wynne and I are still enamored by the mission and amazed by the support from readers, followers, subscribers.

In this episode, we talk about podcasting and how it became a natural extension of our desire to connect. We love learning about each guest’s motivation to create, write, tell stories and live their best lives. Swapping tips and secrets. Sometimes hard-won wisdom.

When we, the Three Amigos, get together to chat, we try to stay on track and thanks to Brian’s keen interviewing skills, he manages to ask a few questions that gave us pause; made us consider our goals and aspirations, delving deep.

  1. really good show today, Brian was a great ‘announcer/host’ and asked all the right questions, bringing out your best selves. like I told you once, it’s like being on the ‘tonight show’, you put people at ease to be themselves, a little bit of gab, a laugh, a poignant moment, a talent, and most of all, the stories from the heart. kind of like a virtual vaudeville, pleased to have sat on the ‘the couch’. on the ‘Wyicki Show.’

    1. Oh my goodness, Beth! Thank you for all of that. LOL moments over here as I read β€œvirtual vaudeville”…you are so right! Brian brings out the good stuff…before, during and after we hit β€œrecord”. Hugs to you…and Happy Valentine’s Day!

  2. I love Beth’s comment: I’ll forever think of the podcast as the β€˜Wyicki Show!’ Your podcasts are always so much fun. I think that’s why you have so many listeners and people are willing to go on your show. I can’t wait to see where you guys go next. Love it!!!

      1. I actually just listened to it and it was wonderful as I imagined. Brian was a great host, and I agree with him that you and Wynne make it feel so easy-breezy! You both create a comfortable environment for your guests. And I look forward to seeing Taylor Swift and Brene Brown! πŸ™‚ β€οΈπŸ€—

  3. First an episode without prompts, and now an episode of you guys becoming guests on your own show. I like how you’re mixing up styles! This is another fantastic episode. Neat to hear about how you guys got started πŸ™‚

  4. What a lovely and warm conversation to enjoy on this snowy long weekend evening. I love the camaraderie amongst you three and yes, Brian’s natural reporter instincts shine through.

I love learning more how your podcast idea came to be and about how you two divide the work. It continues to impress me how you two work so well together having never met in person. One would never guess!

And I had to laugh, because Brene Brown was my guess the instant Brian asked the question. I do appreciate that the podcast shines the light on everyday people trying to spread light into this world. But I also wish you two get to grow it to meet all your goals, including your dream guests! πŸ™

  6. Wow, 100+ already?! That’s amazing! Way to start something and then keep it going! Wasn’t your, uh, 3rd? maybe 2nd guest the best one ever, when it was just Wynne doing the interviews? I’m pretty sure she was. Err, I mean, that that guest was, whomever he or she might have been. *I* have no idea. πŸ˜‰
